Game Brainstorm

 Week 03

Game Brainstorm

There has been a couple of ideas I thought of since the start of this module but here are the four that I think are most reasonable.

Bartendar Simulator:

This was my first idea, the plan was to make a game where you would pour drinks at the bar and control the pressure and the tilt, then you serve them to the customers, depending on how well it is done you will get a good score.
It would start with you getting a request from the customer with a certain drink or service, then you go and pick the glass up, bring it to the tap and start pouring the drink for the customer, in this process you'll have to make adjustments to the pressure using the valve, tilting the glass and judging the distance the glass is to the nozzle and the tilt on the glass, after that you'll have your character pick up the glass and bring it over to the other side of the bar and place it down beside the customer, here is where the customer could complain about not having enough head on the pint for example or he/she could compliment you and say that its a great pint. The aim of the game is to keep the customers happy the whole night and pour pints that have a level of difficulty to it.
When you give the drink out you slide it along the bar top to the customer and depending on how hard you slide it could fall off the table or the drink could spill, I don't know if ill actually go with that idea as it is complicated and probably not necessary but it sounds like a cool idea. Some of the achievements in this game could be a high streak in perfect pours. There could also be a reward system with tips. This could be utilized by having different style glasses that you have to earn by getting a certain amount of tips in the game. This could also add a style and something the player could work towards in the game.
I'm planning to do this idea in POV style, I feel like this could work best this way after looking at some VR games who mainly POV.

With this kind of perspective it will feel like its actually you playing and making the drinks and the way the other NPC's talk to you it will give a more immersive experience.

Dragon Flight:

I have loved the concept of dragons ever since I was eight and making a game where you could fly your own one, would be very cool to see happen. I was thinking that for this game you do exactly what the name says, fly around the skies.
In this game, you would fly through the checkpoints in the sky dodging obstacles like old towns and buildings and possibly other dragons in the sky. I feel like this game could also work if it had a separate mode for races or even time trials for getting through the checkpoints the fastest.
A way to make this game consistently interesting is to make daily challenges or a daily login bonus. I could also add different skins for the dragons and offer different style options to allow the user to customize and be free with the dragons they have made. One way to build on this would be a "create your own dragon" at the start of the game before you play your first level.
This game could be a good idea for online multiplayer so that you can play against others, like games such as 8 Ball Pool who allows you to connect your Facebook account to the game so that you can access your friends and play together easily.
The currency in this game could be souls, like other multiplayer games I think that there could be a great opportunity for this. Again with the game 8 Ball Pool you put chips on the line and the winner takes all.

This game's way of incorporating multiplayer by allowing you to connect your Facebook is a quick and easy way to play with your friends. The way you're able to use wagers to play against others for currency gives the players a goal in the game I think this can be applied to many multiplayer games these days.

Free Roam Game:

For this game, I was thinking just a simple sandbox game where the player chooses to do whatever they want and explore the world around them. It's a pretty simple idea but I feel like it can be expanded on really easily with basic side tasks that the player doesn't have to do but can do at their own will, some basic quests like "travel to the supermarket". The original plan was to make 3 scenes, one being a city setting, a rural setting, and a local setting.
The way you would be able to travel between these settings would be by traveling too fast travel sections around the setting the player is already in, once on the screen you'll be able to choose the place you would like to go and you'll be brought to the next level.
This game is mainly targeted toward more casual players who just want to lose themselves in a world, walk around, make choices on what they want to do, the reason I think this game has potential is that since it's all up to the player to do what they want there is endless possibility.
I want to make this game more graphically challenging, ill try to make the sites and landmarks in each scene look great so it will encourage them to explore more of that each setting gives and make the game as enjoyable to look at and play as possible.
Some games that i personally loved that had a rich open world was God Of War ps4 and Assassins Creed Black Flag which was also made in Unity engine by the way.

God of War is one of my inspirations for this type of game due to the breath taking fidelity of the game, of course my game isn't going to look as amazing as this work of art when it comes to open world scenery.

Assassins Creed Black Flag was another game that I think has amazing graphics, fantastic attention to detail even for its time too! The game came out back in 2013 and coming across a game with this kind of fidelity was very rare. One of the things about this games open world is a setting for one, its in the Carribean islands and the only way of transport is a pirate ship, the world is so vast in this game and there's so much room for exploring with quests everywhere you go. They arent mandatory so you can just explore the world and be imersed playing as a Pirate Assassin!

Endless Runner:

I think nowadays what are you doing with a phone if you don't have at least one Endless Runner game whether that be Temple Run, Subway Surfers or Spider-Man Unlimited. Im thinking that an endless runner would be a good idea because its a simple, easy yet challenging game to play, the controls are simple for me to program and for the player to learn. Endless Runner games are all about making new high scores seeing your scores against your friends and having that fun competition against them. I would like to build my game around this genre but have my own story behind it, for the moment I have a few ideas of where i could go with it, for example I could turn that Dragon Flight into an endless runner and have you dodge obstacles and buildings.
Another idea would be dodge the zombie hord and avoid getting bitten and infected, i feel like a good setting for that theme would be escaping a laboratory in an experiment gone wrong, being that the lab is the setting there is loads of opportunity for lazers and other obstacles other than zombies.
I think that in this game there should be different characters that you can unlock and play as in the games and there could be a small campaign in the game as well as an endless game mode, There should be an extra ingame characters and cosmetics to keep the replay value for players who break there records of completed a challenge, implementing daily challenges towards a bigger goal would be a good addition too. Something like a battle pass.
The Battle pass idea was first brought to gaming in 2018 by Fortnite and its a great way to keep the players working towards something that they can do if they want and not because they need to.

This game is what made me interested in the Endless Runner genre, It was called Spider-Man Unlimited. It had 3 grids going forward and you would swipe to switch them and dodge obstacles as well as kicking the enemies over, defeating bosses and using the points or in this case flasks to unlock new characters. This game is a great example of how a Endless Runner should be and I'm excited to see how i could make mine turn out if I go with this idea.

  3. Bartender simulator sounds like a great game, do the customers get more drunk and annoying as the night goes on? Also can you fight the customers if they annoy you because that's an important part of customer service. Dragon flight is also a really cool idea for a game and im looking forward to seeing which game idea you choose.

  4. Damn Bartender simulator sounds fun! It's like a mix of VR games and Tapper (its an old Arcade game where you slide drinks along a table, it was in Wreck-It-Ralph!), it sounds cool how you could unlock or gain access to new glasses and drinks as you progress, and while you might be imagining it another way, it sounds like it would be really funny if you had some difficult tanky controls, I don't know it reminds me of games like Octodad and Surgeon Simulator :D

  5. Hi Adam I really like the idea of the sandbox game. I really like Minecraft so I feel like that it's kind of in the same sort of realm as this game. I really like the idea of just losing yourself in a game the three scenes that you were thinking of also sound very good. This is the sort of game I would like to play.

  6. Working my way back through your blogs haha. Bartender simulator sounds pretty fun and funny and would be a great experience especially if you were a bar tender and developed a game to give others that experience with a funny twist to it. sounds like a great game in the making and I would love to play that. especially in a VR setting, that would be unreal! Please make this game at some point, even if not for college. It is a great concept!
