Game Vision Statement

Game Vision Statement

This is the third post on my game project, This project post is about selling my game concept as if I was pitching this idea to a big games developer.

Introduction:

My Game idea is a Dragon endless flight simulator called "Dragon Flight" this involves soring through the sky and over the magical land that is known as "Asdrift".
This game is a dynamic flying game that offers the players to fly their own dragons around the magical islands trying to get their best scores and reaching the end of each of the levels as well as offering an endless mode so players can compete for the highest scores.
This game is targeted to be a 3D endless runner but could also be a 2D depending on what version is better looking and ends up being more smooth. I cant wait to see where this game concept goes the thing that's going to set this game apart from the others is the customization and personalization, this way the player will be able to be free with their dragon styles and vanities.
There could be multiple genres linked to this game such as action, adventure, or even magical There also could be a way to make this game more action-based by adding in other dragons trying to attack yours and chasing them as you fly away from them.

Genre:

With this game, I plan to make this game feel like a high paced action game that will have the players on their toes the whole time and will make them feel like they're the dragon in and dodging obstacles at high speed, and have other dragons chasing them like the players are having a highspeed car chase but only its with dragons in a magical land never seen before.
This game is an endless runner incorporating dragons and magic.
It also gives a fantasy or medieval feeling while playing.

Description:

This game is a 3D or 2D endless runner based on Mythical Dragons and you the player is playing your own dragon who is an outcast to the others, in this game the other dragons are trying to chase you down and kill you this is because the supreme dragon leader has ordered a hit out on your dragon.
The objective of this game is to keep flying away from these dragons. I was thinking of making these dragons having taunts or trash talk the player but this could be counterintuitive because these phrases could get very repetitive or annoying over time especially because this is an endless runner and if you're really good at the game you're going to be hearing it way too often.
The goal of the game is to dodge the incoming debris from falling towers, other dragons, buildings, knights on the ground, waves in the water, castle walls or defenses, and even small cavern walls when going through tunnels.
The game starts off with the player bursting out of the castle with you escaping from the "Supreme Dragon Leader" he sends his bodyguards after you this is where you're thrown out into the world and you started the opening sequence from there.
This game would incorporate dodging left right up and down through obstacles in the level.
If you hit an obstacle head-on you would stop dead in your tracks and the other dragon bodyguards would breathe fire and burn you to a crisp, But if you survive you complete the level, and the opening sequence is finished.
Now players will have the option to choose levels or go for endless mode.
this opening sequence will open up options for challenges to unlock new dragon skins or new settings. I haven't fully decided yet but the game could look great in both 3D and 2D, the only thing about making the game 2D is that it forces me to use fewer obstacles and less opportunity for movement mechanics and limits the player to what they can learn with the increased amount of flight mechanics 3D grants them. Either way, this could work and I will finalize my decision soon.

Key features:

The key feature of this game is that it gives the player who playing as the dragon a range of possibilities with the flight mechanics, allowing them to chain different combos of lane dashes and dodging obstacles.
Another key feature in this game is to give the possibility for a skill gap and players who play the game frequently to be able to get creative with their skills as well as setting high scores.

Gameplay:

The gameplay in this game is very fast-paced and full of action throughout it all, this is to keep the player on their toes throughout all the time playing. since this game is all about dodging obstacles and trying to stay in the air while also flying away from the other dragons this game requires high levels of reaction time and focus.

This game uses six grids for that players to use to dodge obstacles, dragons, etc.
The player starts on the middle bottom grid, these grids are going to be called lanes, there will be three lanes on the bottom that would take up the space on the screen going horizontally and there will be another three lanes that will do the exact same thing and will be placed directly above the bottom lanes.
The players will be able to fly between these lanes as a way of dodging objects, I think adding cool animations as the dragon flys between these lanes would be an interesting way of adding another way of style and adding character to the dragon as its flamboyant and confident in its flying capabilities.

Resources:

I took inspiration from some sources to make this game the best it could be. When I was younger I was a big fan of Spyro the Dragon, Spyro is a very charismatic character who makes jokes and is a very fun character. Spyro makes the game more light-hearted and is welcoming to children and family members as he is a household name back in the day. Most kids nowadays don't know of Spyro I think this is because most of the big Spyro games were made 10 years ago.

Skylanders Spyro's Adventure

Spyro made his last big appearance in a game called Skylanders, This game was very popular amongst kids around 2010-2011. Spyro is a big influence on me and I love his character.

As I was showing this idea off to my friends one of them said that this idea is comparable to the Spyro Reignited game in the flying levels where Spyro would explore the land by flying around collecting treasures.

This is one of the flying levels In the game where you can fly around to explore the world. The things that make this game different from mine is that its exploration and discovery while I am trying to make mine an action game, also this game allows the player to fly in all directions. There is another game out at the moment for mobile users called Dragon Village
the reason I included this game is that I really like the art style used for this game and how the dragons and all the other living things in the game.

Dragon Village

I'm really excited for this game and where it goes and how it develops into something great at the end of the year when it's finally complete. An article that really helped me with the structure of this statement was a site called Gamasutra, find more information here: shorturl.at/qzBFK

  1. Hey Adam.

This is a very interesting concept for a game and I would love to see this be created. Be interested to see how you pull it off because it does look very difficult, but you've linked it in to some of my favourite games growing up and I am excited to see where go with this

  2. hey Adam ,
Great blog so far, really enjoyed reading through your game idea. The fact that the player gets to fly around as a dragon is such a cool idea it was interesting to read through your idea of how at the start the supreme dragon leader send his bodyguard's after you , i think it gives a story to game , giving it a really good objective for the player as they know what there trying o fly away from. I wonder if instead of having the dragon die straight away when u crash instead the obstacle it instead slows you down similar to subway surfers where u get 2 chances , the first time u hit an obstacle it slows you down but the second is when the cop catches , i wonder if this would be a good idea to put into your own game. I see you already plan on having a level mode but what if with each level it becomes more difficult and finally at the very last level u go up against the supreme dragon leader chasing you, just an idea. looking forward to seeing your final game !

  3. hi Adam ,
flying game seems a bit difficult to make on 3d but good luck with that. i like the idea of dragon very colorful background you must create like sky background with clouds and the lanes your talking about seems like those addictive quick games to dodge obstacles cant wait to see the dragon on action while flying up on the sky i'm quite bad at reaction games so i hope there is easy mode or not so fast paced. i always played runner games as a kid still now. to unlock new skins and i also liked the genre about fantasy or medieval theme. like the design.

  4. Hi Adam,
The Dragon Flight game seems like such a good idea, might be a bit hard to execute but I think if you were able to pull it off it could be such a good game.
I think to help you could maybe try add in some sort of storyline into the game to keep the players a bit more interested, when you make things a bit more personal and intimate in a game I think that it can really help a player get into it.
Best of luck with creating your game :)

  5. Hi Adam

I love your idea. I have never played a Dragon-like game before but I would love to. I feel it can be possible if you found the plane task easy. If not, don't worry, anyone can do anything they set their mind to. I also find it clever you are combining games like Skylanders and Dragon Village with something like Subway surfers. It makes your game a lot easier to do. I cannot wait to play your game and I cannot wait to look at the visuals as well.
